It is probably too small for a child over age four as it is only a little bigger than a lunch box. My son was super excited to get it. The contrasting colors are adorable; the straps are light green and yellow and contrast nicely with the darker green back. The backpack itself has only one compartment which opens with one zipper and a yellow pull cord. The backpack is basic, but seems sturdy enough.
