| Called the "It bag of the future" by Teen Vogue, this stylish and ridiculously practical bag (sold in packages of 3 and 6) is one easy step in helping save the planet. Baggu ("bag" in Japanese) is machine washable, and folds up into it's own pouch small enough to tuck into your handbag or pocket. Made of super-tough ripstop nylon in bright, fun colors, it's the re-usable bag that's eco-chic. | | Photos courtesy of Dan Martensen. | Why Baggus are so great? You want to replace your old friends, the paper & plastic bags, with something that does their job without creating needless waste or harming the environment. Using one Baggu for one year replaces 300 to 700 disposable bags. -
One Baggu holds the contents of 2 to 3 plastic grocery bags. Six bags can hold a whole cart full of groceries. -
Baggu Bag handles are the perfect length: you can hold them in your hand, on your forearm, or over your shoulder. -
They are made from super strong rip-stop nylon (holds 25 lbs) so they are light (2 oz) and compactible. They fold into a flat 5 by 5 inch pouch that easily slips in a purse or pocket. That way they are always handy when you need them. -
Baggu bags have a nice big gusset in the bottom so they will sit flat when they are filled (good for eggs & milk.) | | Smart Design Baggu was designed by mother-daughter team Joan and Emily in California. They both saw the need for a better reusable bag, and after dozens of prototypes, came up with a solution that makes using reusable bags stylish, practical and easy. | | Baggu is great whether you shop on foot or drive to the store, you always need to have a bag or two that fold up small and can be carried in your purse, ready for an unexpected errand. | | | We use lightweight, hard working fabrics to make bags that will perform years of service in all of our daily toting tasks: groceries, pharmacy purchases, gifts, and books, and pet food, and clothes and ... All the tons of things we find ourselves accepting a disposable bag to bring home. Changing our own shopping habits is one small thing we can do to make a difference. We hope you feel good every time you use your BAGGU. | Plastic Bags & the Planet The average family brings home 1,000 bags every year. Most of those bags end up in land fills. That really adds up - 100 billion plastic bags are sent to landfill in the US each year. In landfills, it can take up to 1000 years for a bag to decompose. Plastics don't biodegrade, they photo-degrade, breaking down into tiny toxic pieces that contaminate soil and water or harm wildlife. Every time you use your Baggu bag instead of plastic or paper you are doing something good. |

Do You Baggu? January 4, 2009 Baggu makes the task of carrying your own shopping bags with you both easy and convenient. In fact, it is something you want to do because of how much nicer and stronger they are compared to traditional shopping bags, or even traditional reusable bags. Totes have their place, but they are not very convenient, especially for last minute or unplanned shopping trips.
Baggus are extremely strong, portable, and light weight. I would say the handles could use to be a little longer for over-the-shoulder carrying. I would also argue a bit with the claim that they hold 2-3 times the groceries of traditional bags. It really depends on the quality of bags your grocer uses and the weight of your groceries. By the pound, Baggu can hold much more weight comfortably. Another great feature is that they don't readily topple over and spill their contents like regular plastic bags.
I also really like Baggu for errands like carrying library books, extra clothing, gym towels, and just about anything else that you might need to tote somewhere.
Baggu is the best December 28, 2008 Wide handles that don't cut into your hand and an incredible amount of space to hold everything.... Much bigger than it looks. Good heavy material, no worries about your items ripping the fabric.
If you care about the environment, you'll want to ditch all the plastic bags and get reusable ones.
Love These Bags November 30, 2008 These bags are sturdy & easily hold my groceries. I have had several checkers comment on how nice they are & how much they hold. As soon as I get home from the grocery store I unpack the groceries, fold the bags, insert them into their cases & put them right back in my purse so I never leave home without them.
I adore these bags November 28, 2008 2 out of 2 found this review helpful
These bags are fantastic! I've had them for about a year and they still look brand new despite being used weekly and scrunched up then shoved in a bag after each use.
It's funny, but nearly every time I give these to the bagger in the store, they want to know where I got them saying how cute they are, how easy to fill unlike some bags they get from people, and how much they hold.
I'd say the main problems are remembering to put them back in the car after each trip to the market, remembering to take them into the store each time, convincing the baggers to put more in them that they would put in their own thin plastic bags, and the price - although if you look at the different colors, some are less expensive than others (clearing out the older colors?). Still I'm really glad I have them and have several sets with some in my purse for random purchases and enough to shop for a large family even with baggers who underfill them.
You'll be happy you got these!
Great bag but October 30, 2008 These are wonderful bags and I love them, we use them for other things, not just groceries, like book bags, bags for the kids to tote their toys around in, they are very versitile. On the down side, these have separate storage sacks that are hard to keep track of, other bags have storage sacks attached on to the bag which is more convenient. Other than that, these are wonderful bags, and they can hold much more than traditional plastic bags, also the handles are nice and long so you can tie them if you need to keep items securly inside while transporting.
